ONE GOAL ONE MISSION - HELP YOU TO GIVE UP GAMBLING

Tips to quit

TOP-TIP 1 REMOVE THE TEMPTATION

Remove all gambling app's & websites from your laptops, tablets and smart phones. A small glance at an app can trigger the desire!

TOP-TIP 2 SELF EXCLUDE

If you have gambling memberships with online companies, casino's and bookies - SELF EXCLUDE!  Send the customer services department a simple email outlining your intention. The gambling companies are obliged to comply with this wish.  Do it when you are feeling your strongest and the availability will be limited when you are at your weakest.

TOP-TIP 3 YOUR BANK BALANCE

Print off a copy of your bank balance,, grab a highlighter and dedicate some time going through your gambling deposits. If you have had an online gambling problem you may be in for a shock as to just how much you have spent.  Add it up and consider what you could have purchased with that money had you not gambled it all away. Some times this can be an extremely effective reality check.

TOP-TIP 4 REMOVE THE TEMPTATION

Confide in those close to you about your gambling problem. Be honest about how bad the problem has got.  It is likely that friends and family will keep a close eye on you.  It will be awkward at first but the relief of telling somebody else about a problem like this can be extremely effective.

TOP-TIP 5 CREATE A DISTRACTION

Make a point of applying your interest into something completely different, a new hobby, gym membership or course can be just what you need to take your mind off gambling addiction.  Your brain will crave something to fill the gap, by doing something positive other than gambling will help to distract you and help build positive energy.

TOP-TIP 6 BE HONEST

Take a reality check! Do you really think  you will make your fortunes, change your life and help your family by gambling ?  I think the gambling companies would like you to think so.  The reason it's big business, with hefty advertising budgets is because the gambling industry rakes in billons of our hard earned cash everyday. Just a little reality/honesty check can bring you back to reality, gambling is not good for you and deep down you know it.

You can do this... you're not alone

TOP-TIP 7 YOUR HEALTH

Just forgetting about your ever decreasing bank balance for one second please consider what this is doing to your physical and mental health.  Stress caused by gambling can be fatal. Go to the doctors, get your blood pressure, cholesterol and state of mind checked over.  If you have gambled over a long period of time you will be surprised of the effects.

TOP - TIP 8 TREAT YOURSELF

One of the reasons gambling is so addictive is casued by a chemical reaction created in the brain which creates dopamine. As it turns out gambling creates an abundance of dopamine which in turn generates the rush, euphoria and wow factor.  Its difficult to recreate this feeling but it can be done.  You need to distract yourself witha  different hobby, this can be anything from joining the local gym to getting a pet dog but above all reward yourself with something good in your life. Walking away from gambling often leaves such a significant gap, you need to find something to fill that gap. As long as the replacement distrction isnt anything illigal or alcoholic then go for for it!

TOP - TIP 9 - LEARN FROM OTHERS

The default answer for addicts is to visit recovery clinics and attend GA meetings.  We don't think you should dismiss these methods but be sure to consider what else is available.  Those who use gambling hypnosis are 30% more likely to quit! Consider hypnosis, acupuncture and meditation as an option. Gambling addiction is a state of mind after all.  If you can embrace some of these positive mind therapy techniques you can give yourself the best possible chance.

TOP-TIP 10 PROFESSIONAL HELP

As we have mentioned earlier, we do not dismiss the power of professional help.  Don't be ashamed to pick up the phone to Samaritans, attend the GA meetings. If anything this will help you to recognise that there are many others like you, you will be able to openly and confidentially share your experiences,
